I have read so many books and articles about being single - however one author provided a unique insight. She discussed the idea of the word ‘soulmate’ creating an unrealistic picture in the minds of single people. The word conjours up the idea that our prospective partner almsot arrives complete and ready with everything we need and like in another person - no bad stuff and no effort required.

However when this same author spoke to long term couples they didn’t use the word soulmate to decribe their partner. Instead the term ‘best friend’ was used. This paints an entirely different picture in the mind. One that depicts a long term commitment and a journey that creates the kind of bond that is what we as human being seek and need. It doesn’t by any means suggest that person is meant to meet our every need nor are they without flaw…

We need to get past looking for soulmate and instead find friends and perhaps through putting in concerted effort over time we will find our best friend!

yeah - I’ve been wondering how one finds one soul mate. Does this mean we get the love and respect we deserve?
